The holidays are (pretty much) behind us & we’re about to ring in 2018! Whether 2017 was your most memorable year, or a year you want to forget, we’re about to turn over a new leaf. I’m going to give you my top 5 tips on creating some lasting change in your life for the new year. . .
- 1) Set some goals! This is the fun part. What exactly is it you want to change or incorporate into your life this year? Lose weight? Run a marathon? Have a baby? Graduate? Write a book? Travel more? Whatever you come up with, write it down but also make sure that your dreams are meaningful TO YOU.
- 2) Check your priorities. Meaning, what in your life means most to you & how are you willing to make room for those things in your day to day life? It could be your kids/family, career, your travel blog, whatever. Make a list of all the priorities in your life–big & small with the most important ones on the top. That way at the end of the year you can look back & know you had your priorities in line.
3) Check your habits. What habits currently in your life are going to need an overhaul? Is it hitting the snooze button everyday when you know you *should* go to the gym? Or constantly raiding the fridge after dinner for a sweet treat. . (🙋🏼♀️ guilty!) Take a look at your goals & recognize what/where you need to make some tweaks to get you where you WANT to be. Also, give yourself some grace–it’s hard work to create new habits–when you do slip up there’s no need to beat yourself up or sabotage the rest of your day. Cut yourself some slack–have a pity party for 5 minutes if you need it–then MOVE ON. Back on the horse..you got goals to slay!4) After setting some goals, recognizing your priorities & creating new habits, it’s time to take ACTiON. You won’t get anywhere without action. Figure out the action steps you need to take (big & small) to reach your goals. The baby steps you need to take over the next 3, 6, 9 & 12 months to get to where you want to be.
- 5) Check-in. Whether it’s every week, month or quarter. You need to gauge your progress. Often times we set these goals, tirelessly work toward them, only to realize it’s not the direction we want to go. That’s ok! Re-evaluate. Set up some new goals & keep pressing forward. Or maybe you’re just not making the progress you expected by X amount of time. Be honest with yourself in deciphering if you’re being lazy–or what it is preventing you from being where you THOUGHT you were going to be in 3 months. Checking-in allows you to step back & take a look at those goals, recognize current habits & if you’ve been following your priority list & if you’re taking those actionable steps to propel you forward.
- I hope this inspires & motivates you to make some positive changes in your life this year! When the going gets tough, remember your WHY. Why did you want that goal in the first place? That might help you get back into the headspace of conquering some of those dreams.
- Have a fun & safe New Year!
- XOXO
